'Lazy Hazy Days' Illustration Project (Sketchbook and Final Design Boards)

 Helloooooo,

So this is an illustation and marketing & promotion project I have been working on for 7 weeks or so and here is the work in my sketchbook researching three illustrators (Cedric Rivrain, Rene Gruau and Kelly Smith), a designer's S/S 14 collection from last season (mine had to be Christopher Kane's - possibly my favourite collection everrr) and their inspiration behind it (which then became our theme for our own collection). Since Kane's inspo was biology science lessons I looked at human anatomy and nature, I also looked at trends for S/S 2014 which were present in his collection - metallics, holographic, 'florals' (but reinvented) and cut outs (which I'll definitely be working into my own wardrobe as the weather gets *ahem* marginally warmer into spring). I also looked at fabrics for S/S and colours as well as creating a mood board for my theme and customer for my collection. Not going to lie my customer is basically who I hope to be in the future - living and working in london at a fashion magazine/designing/illustrating going to fashion events and all that jazz.

I then began designing from my research, using pictures of cells under a microscope and atom formation drawings as reoccuring prints throughout my collection. I also had to design and logo for my brand as well as a swing tag and packaging as marketing and promotion materials to go alongside my collection. I decided to use my intials, and incoporate a rose into my swing tag design, as well as make the acetate window on the bag like a petri dish with bateria as a background (all relating to my theme of nature).

I'm pretty happy with my final boards (at the end if you want to skip past the sketchbook stuff) although I didn't get to finish everything. I also apologise for the not so great photos but this has to be posted as part of college work so hey ho.

What do you think? Like my designs? Feel free to comment :-)

Monki Wishlist for February

Monki Wishlist for February

So I'm going to London in three weeks and it looks like I'll be spending all my money in Monki cos the stuff they have in at the moment is gorgeousssss. I love Monki and their Scandi style and I think these pieces will be great to transition from winter into spring, especially as *shock horror* there is some colour with the bright floral jumper :-))
I really cannot resist anything monochrome, (I think its becoming a problem haha) but I think the striped oversized dress will be a great basic to have in my wardrobe which I can dress up and down. I LOVE the light wash denim jacket and how the shape is quite boxy, I definitely think I think I need it in my life as it'll look so nice thrown on with anything.
Also how cute is this dinky backpack??? And triange bra?? Monki have such a nice selection of underwear- simple but really pretty.

Are there any pieces from Monki you're lusting after? Comment if you wish :-))

Dot to Dot

Top - Charity Shop/ Necklace - Topshop/ Jeans - Topshop/ Hat - H&M/ Bag - Primark (old)/
Fluffy cardigan - Primark

Heyyyyyyyy,

So I've been waiting to take some photos of an OOTD and I finally got the chance to try out my tripod properly in my newly painted room today- so glad I now have a plain background for blog photos :-) I'm still getting used to using my tripod so I know these photos aren't great but hey ho.
Today we just went to the pub for lunch as a belated birthday meal since I went to a gig on my actual birthday- I can't believe I'm 17!
I got this top from a charity shop in town the other day & it was a steal for £2.99, I can't resist black and white polka dots :-)) I also can't get enough of my new black Topshop Jonis- I was worried they were going to fade really quickly but so far they've washed pretty well. To play on the polka dots I added my black velvet polka dot bag, which I thought looked quite cool. Finally to wear out I wore my chelsea boots and grey boucle boyfriend jacket.

Hope you like the look,

It's My Blog's 1st Birthday! - Outfit Snippets from the Past Year

Hello!
So today might be another dreary monday, but it's actually a year today since I started blogging on 'The Typical Aquarius' woohooo! :-))
I can't quite believe it's been a year, to be honest I think starting my blog has been one of the best decisions I made last year - it may sound cheesy but it really has been, I only intended writing and documenting my style on my blog for myself and I never expected anyone to read it/comment/let alone give me opportunities through my blog, which I've been really grateful for :-)
Throughout the past year I've really enjoyed taking photos and writing posts, and obviously my sister Katie has had a big part to play in my blog since she is my 'photographer' bless her haha, however now that I own a tripod I shouldn't have to nag her as much to take my photos for me ;-)

As a sort of reflection from my past year of blogging I thought I'd include some outfit snippets, most of which are from spring/summer and didn't get included in blog posts as most of them are random photos. I think my style has really developed since starting my blog, especially I think since leaving school and starting fashion at college - which I absolutely love!

And with the new year, comes a new do.. yep, I now have a full fringe, I was in need the change haha :-).
I know I've been slacking in the posting department lately particularly with outfit posts, but I have plenty planned, so expect some pretty soon!

As always thank you so much for reading and sticking with me through 2013!

Art Nouveau Inspired Fashion Design

        Long time no blog!

For college we were asked to design a garment inspired by art nouveau as we are currently studying the movement in the Edwardian era in fashion history.
For my design, I decided to look at Louis Comfort Tiffany, famous for his beautiful stained glass lamps and ornate jewellery. I took inspiration from this particular lamp which looks like a willow tree and I think the colours are gorgeous an. I created three panels for the top, each featuring the stained glass design of the lamp, and repeated this pattern on side panels on the trousers. To ensure that the stained glass design really stood out, I decided to keep the rest of the garment black, making the design as well as the form of the garment contemporary.

Although the top is very structured, I feel that it is balanced out as it is a strapless design and works really well with the skinny tapered trousers. As a whole look, I feel like black pointed stilettos and retro makeup and hair would set off the garment and would be perfect for a large event/awards ceremony.

Once again I apologise for the lack of posts lately, but I promise there will be lots more to come as it's been one of my new year resolutions to really try and blog as much as I can.

As always thanks for reading!
