Denim Forever

Denim is a staple in pretty much everybody's wardrobe and so here are some of my favourite denim pieces for spring. Even though denim is always a reoccurring trend, it's a bigger and better for spring/summer this year - whether you like minimalist or more retro styles, the styling options are literally endless!

Monki's selection of denim at the moment is on point and my wardrobe is crying out for this gorge shirt. I've been wanting a denim shirt for a while and this is the perfect one, I love how minimalist it is and I think it would look great with black ripped skinnies and chunky silver sandals or worn undone over a striped dress.

I also absolutely love this a-line skirt from Topshop, which is really similar to the one from Alexa Chung's collection for AG jeans. It's the perfect skirt for this season and would look really cute styled with an off the shoulder crop top and platform sandals for a 60s/70s vibe.

Which is your favourite piece? How would you style denim pieces for spring?

ASOS Project - Stylists and Final Look

ASOS have a team of stylists who offer style advice for customers one to one on asos.com as well as on twitter. They also provide inspiration with daily ootd's on instagram, the latest trends on pinterest and styling videos on asos' youtube channel.

Each stylist is unique and would all style my trousers differently, for example Megan who likes to mix 60's and 70's would probably pair my trousers with an off the shoulder top/crop top, chunky boots/platforms and fur jacket. Whereas Isabella would most likely style my trousers with a minimalist duster coat and barely there strappy heels.

Here's my final styling board for holiday wear:

Autumn Wishlist
With a new season comes a new wishlist, so here are some items I've been lusting after recently, just click on the title for the link to the item :-)

Every wardrobe needs a white shirt and although I have a hell of a lot of shirts, for some reason I don't own a white cotton one so I need this one in my life asap. A white shirt is such a versatile piece, I'll be layering mine under printed jumpers with black skinnys and chunky boots this autumn.
I seem to be obsessed with basics at the moment and I love easy, million ways to wear tops like this one, probably because early college mornings mean I don't want to think too much about putting an outfit together as I always seem to be in a rush so this is the kind of top I can throw on with a pair of skinnys and simple necklace and be good to go. I'm also attracted to anything marl grey just because it really does go with everything.
I love dogtooth print, and these trousers are gorgeous. They'll look equally as nice worn casually for the daytime as well as dressed up with a leather jacket and heels for the evening. I'm also a jeans or printed skirt sort of girl so I'd like to add more printed trousers into my wardrobe.
As I've said before monki do the prettiest lace bras, they're also great if you've got a small chest  because they're super comfy.
Oh my, how beautiful is this backpack??? Urban always do gorge vintage-esque bags and I'm seriously in love with this one. Aside from canvas tote bags, backpacks are my favourite just because I think when worn slouchy on one shoulder they instantly add a kind of cool to any outfit.
I've been looking for the perfect deep pink lipstick and after swatching this one in topshop I think I've found the perfect one. I also love the velvet finish - not quite matte but still nice and moisturising.

Like anything in my wishlist? What will you be wearing this autumn?

Monki Wishlist for February

Monki Wishlist for February

So I'm going to London in three weeks and it looks like I'll be spending all my money in Monki cos the stuff they have in at the moment is gorgeousssss. I love Monki and their Scandi style and I think these pieces will be great to transition from winter into spring, especially as *shock horror* there is some colour with the bright floral jumper :-))
I really cannot resist anything monochrome, (I think its becoming a problem haha) but I think the striped oversized dress will be a great basic to have in my wardrobe which I can dress up and down. I LOVE the light wash denim jacket and how the shape is quite boxy, I definitely think I think I need it in my life as it'll look so nice thrown on with anything.
Also how cute is this dinky backpack??? And triange bra?? Monki have such a nice selection of underwear- simple but really pretty.

Are there any pieces from Monki you're lusting after? Comment if you wish :-))

Wishlist #1

November A/W Wishlist

Soooo, here are a few things I've had my eye on recently. As per ususal there is a lot of black, but you know I really love all black everythaaaang.

River Island Floral Collared Top

This top is so beaut, as you may know I love shirts/collared tops and this one ticks the dark floral trend nicely. I'm forever reblogging photos/paintings of roses on tumblr and this print is gorgeous. Sometimes I think that floral prints can be overly girly but this print is balanced by the black and boxy shape.

Topshop Katz Cut Out Shoes

Currently dying over these shoes, I seriously need these in my life! I think they're so chic, and will go with anything, adding sophisticatin to any outfit.

H&M Velvet Belt

I've been after a belt with a chunky gold clasp for ages after losing my beloved vintage one at a festival in Nottingham in the summer :-(  However I came across this one which is perfect, and I also like how it has a velvet texture which makes a nice change from leather.

H&M Chiffon Tassle Blouse

Even though this top is a bit more boho than my usual style, I think you could style this piece multiple ways, and also wear it undone as a kimono.

River Island Dogtooth Trousers

I love dogtooth but am yet to own anything in the print, and I really love these trousers. With them being monochrome you could pair virtually any colour top with them, and they could easily be dressed up or down.

So there are my picks for November and I think a few of them will probably be going on my Christmas list :-)

What fashion items have you been lusting after?

Victorian Inspired Garment Design

Hello!

So for college we have been asked to design a garment inspired by the Victorian Era, as we have been studying the period in fashion history.

For my design I took inspiration from various pictures above I'd found on pinterest and decided to incorporate a Victorian ruffled blouse with a high neck collar and Amelia Bloomer 'Bloomers' (trousers for women which were introduced in the dress reform in the late 1800s due to the Suffragettes) and modernise both garments by creating a jumpsuit. I shortened the sleeves and added a draped shape which ties in with detailing on the sides of the trousers at the hips that relates to the draping of layers of fabric on most Victorian dresses (as seen above). This was because the desired sillouette during the period was an hourglass, a tiny waist and large hips created by the corset, aswell as a large behind created using a bustle (masses of fabric wound around a frame) , and a full skirt created using a crinoline (a circular cage). I have replicated the silhouette and emphasised the hips with this detailing in my design.

As the top of the jumpsuit is quite detailed I decided to go for a simple tapered leg trouser instead of the wide leg 'bloomer' shape, I think this works well with the top and can still be linked back to the dress reform look. To finish off I added a brooch (which could be a classic cameo design or inspired by the one ) to the blouse and replicated this with the shoes, so it tied the whole look together. I feel my design is quite versatile as depending on the colour of the jumpsuit, it can be worn in S/S aswell as A/W. For example white/cream for S/S which would look clean & fresh teamed with simple jewellery or black for A/W teamed with a dark red lip for an overall gothic look.

Hope you like the design! Thanks for reading :-)

Why I Love Fashion

Hiiiiii,
So summer is most definitely over & I have finally started my course in fashion & clothing at college woooo
As part of the course we've been asked to create a blog if you haven't already, (can't believe I've had this blog 8 months already!) & to explain why you love fashion in a post..
I love fashion for a number of reasons, primarily because I love how clothes can make you feel. I love how you can express your personality & literally wear your mood through your clothes. Also how certain clothes/shoes/accessories can make you feel completely different, more confident even.
I love how fashion is always upcoming & exciting, how some trends come & go yet there are the classics that will never go out of style such as the little black dress :-)
As I constantly read fashion magazines, I get most of my inspiration for styling from them, my favourite being Company magazine, aswell as blogger streetstyle and my absolute style icon Alexa Chung. I adore her preppy school girl meets grunge style and she never puts a fashion foot wrong in my eyes, so I like to take ideas from her outfits and incorporate into my own style.

Hope you liked this post, thanks for reading! :-)

Ways I would Style H&M Trousers

Hello!

So I recently purchased these gorgeous trousers from H&M whilst in London (blog post to follow) and to be honest, they were a bit of an impulse buy as I saw them on the mannequin and thought, I have to have those! They will be perfect for S/S as they tick the monochrome trend, are floral which I love, and are made of a light, breezy fabric aswell as being slightly tailored.

Although at first I thought they might be quite tricky to style, I really love the outfits I have come up with. As shown above, by adding a bright lipstick such as this one from the Kate Moss collection for Rimmel, can really make a monochrome outfit pop.
I would also accessorise with gold or silver jewellery because I think either would work with the colour palette.

Hope you like the looks :-)
